Step One – Socks

Ptew. Now you are gone. I have spit you out of my head. There are plenty of reasons this will not get read. Number one, I’m sure, is the rude beginning. Number two – I am who I am when pretending to be Eric the Red, Eric the Viking, Eric on the wind or the string Jerry is picking. The only time I hear your voice is when both knees are bending. You’re telling me that recovery is remembering I struggle with socks one at a time but both of them are on and I’m still stammering. I have to convert sobriety into getting well as I keep arriving. A question of morality with both socks I put on every morning. I start by struggling with the first sock of the day, forget it for a while then the struggle goes away. The struggle and stammering lasts for ten minutes then on with what the day brings, humbled to remember socks are sobriety and not a craving.
