What would you change about modern society?
If I could, I would change the rules of baseball. I’d make it so you only get three good pitches to hit the ball. If you get two strikes right away you forfeit another try. Two strikes and you’re out. In that way we’ll always wonder what the third swing could’ve been. Guessing that the ball would be hit is not a 50/50 guess because statistics are variables above or below luck. You either hit the ball or you sit down if you wiff twice. Two strikes and you’re out. The third good pitch never happens because the ball was either hit or there were a few wiff’s already. If you wiff there is one more chance to connect. If you hit on the first pitch, all good, on to the next batter. If you wiff the first pitch you better hit the next or same deal. The answer to winning is hitting the ball on the first or second good pitch and not wiffing either one, and not guessing what comes after a wiff if it’s the second pitch, but also never blowing up the planet by allowing a chance at three strikes. If there were unlimited balls and two good pitches there is no reason to pitch the ball for a third strike when you have two perfectly good pitches you already whiffed on and countless balls that are not good pitches to connect. The problem is that every pitch is not a strike and sometimes you never have to swing. Maybe instead of changing the rules of baseball I start a pro softball league. That is a more democratic way. It could change my life.
